Best Colors for a Playroom

Small spaces can be a challenge to decorate and style. But paint can open up a room and make it feel less cramped. Let’s dive into some tips and tricks that will help you make your rooms feel a little more roomy!

  1. Embrace Bold Colors

Traditional design wisdom teaches you that using a shade of white or some other light color is the best way to go if you’re trying to open up a space and make it seem bigger. But when used correctly, black can get the job done too. What do we mean by “done correctly”, exactly? Well, the darker the color you use, the darker the undertone you’ll need if you want everything to match.

Our favorite dark color is Black Panther by Benjamin Moore.

  1. Use Patterns

If an accent wall can draw the eye in, a well-placed pattern can stretch it. Think about it: vertical stripes on clothing makes you look taller, while horizontal ones make you look wider. The same principle applies to the effect these patterns can have on your space. To avoid bringing too much visual stimulation into the space, isolate the use of whatever pattern you choose on a single wall or two to create some contrast. If you want a slightly more dramatic finish to your room’s design, this might be the way to go.

  1. Paint Your Ceilings

Speaking of contrast, don’t forget about the blank canvas that is your ceiling. If you have darker walls, go with an off-white or gray ceiling to elongate your walls and vice versa. If you want to get really creative, we’ve even seen well-done ceiling art being incorporated into a room. If your walls are blue, for instance, lighten up the shade as you climb up the walls and turn the ceiling into a faux skylight of sorts, mimicking nature.

Paint can add square footage, at least visually, if you use it correctly. For more help using paint to transform your space, call our trusted team of professionals at Ireland’s Finest. We can help you narrow down color, schedule a free estimate, and give you practical advice.
