With so many colors and shades to choose from, narrowing it down can seem like an impossible task. After all, the living room is where most of us spend the majority of our time. But the real question is, what kind of atmosphere are you trying to create? Bright and cheery? A chilled out space for relaxation?
Here are a few tips to help inspire you, and help you check step one off of your home improvement to-do list!
Think About Versatility
When you think about the color grey, your first thought is probably something along the lines of, “Blah.” But grey is actually an extremely versatile addition to any color palette. In my apartment, for instance, I like to think of grey as a backdrop. It makes all of the other colors pop, while not drawing too much attention to itself.
Bring Brightness In…
Accent walls are a big trend right now, and one that can really make your space more dynamic. Think bold here – a bright, feel-good yellow juxtaposed against classic white walls is both eye-catching and artistic.
…But Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark
Moody, deep blues are great for living rooms because they create a sense of intimacy. Plus, they make a fantastic backdrop to show off furniture and artwork that might get lost when put up against louder wallpaper. Some people even take it a step further and paint the ceiling to match.
Indoor Oasis
We’re naturally soothed by nature – that’s why houseplants are so popular. The color green calms us, and gives us feelings of tranquility. Soft, pale greens are great for living rooms and pair well with lots of other light colors. Think pastels – blues, pinks and yellows especially.
